Delivery
As long as everything goes well with your pregnancy, you can choose where you like to deliver: at home in your own environment or have a domiciliary in and out delivery. Everyone starts the delivery at home. For many women, the best contractions start at the familiar surrounders of their own home. Even if you have a domiciliary in and out delivery, the first stage of labour will be done at home. A domiciliary in and out delivery implies that you rent a room in a hospital to give birth under our guidance. Always call us first, never go to the hospital on your own. We will visit you at your home first, see how it goes and then call the hospital to announce your imminent arrival. If you have a domiciliary in and out delivery, there is often cost sharing attached to it. This can be found in your insurance policy. On average, this cost will be around 270 euros.
You can make the choice of the place of delivery during the pregnancy, but you can also wait and see how you feel during labor and then decide whether you stay home or go to the hospital. One of the midwives of the practice, a "kraamverzorgster" (nurse specificly trained to help in this situation) and sometimes a student will be present during labour. If the course of a pregancy is more or less deviating from the norm, we will refer you to a gynaecologist at the hospital.
You can choose between the Bevalcentrum West (a center for outhome delivery) in the Sint Lucas Ziekenhuis (hospital) or the Slotervaartziekenhuis (hospital). We have a good cooperation with them and it allows us to during our services to remain accessible to all our clients. In all hospitals there sometimes will be interns or student midwives present at the birth. If all goes well, you can go home a few hours after your delivery.
Labor will show you the position you prefer. Each posture is possible. We always have the baarkruk (birthing stool) with us. You should have the following in your home (from 36 weeks pregnancy on) for the delivery and the postpartum period :
